Brian Trudeau is the son of the well known Cornish Impressionist artist Vashti, famed for her seascape and landscape Oil Paintings. He`s inherited her artistic eye, and has  been creating wood sculptures as a hobby for over 20 years now, and a few years ago, decided to combine his love of wood sculpture with stained-glass…
His work is available in several Galleries and has just recently been accepted for inclusion in the acclaimed Sausmarez Manor in St Martins, Guernsey. Link here:

I`ve deliberately chosen hardwood, for durabilty, quality and weather resistance, and whenever possible highly figured pieces.
When combined with stained glass, each one is quite unique…

Some are intended to be displayed indoors, but most of my work is intended for display outside…  in direct sunlight whenever possible for the best results, as they really come alive when the sun shines through them…
particularly in a garden or landscape setting…

About

Solis-Lead Glass Wood Sculpture

If you love the way that light shines through coloured glass, and if you`ve an eye for a unique piece of wood art, then these stained glass and wood sculpture pieces are for you…

I`m lucky in that I love what I do, and tend to work instinctively…
I try not to `overwork` a piece, and usually just 'sense` when something feels right to my minds eye, and shape accordingly…
trying to work intuitively without over analyzing it…
and attempting to find harmony between the wood, the colour and the glass…

I`ve always loved people`s reactions to my work, because I work to accentuate on an instinctive level, and people quite often see something different from what I originally saw, and even from their friends and family…

Here, he speaks about his work…

The external pieces are all treated with a special varnish/oil that will help protect them from the elements for years, or if you prefer to let them bleach and weather with time, just don`t bother  varnishing them. Many people find this only adds to their rustic appeal…I try to use recycled glass wherever possible, as this often has small faults and imperfections in it, which I also find adds to the character of the finished piece…
